Remember the Seinfeld episode when they visit their friends baby, to find that he’s extremely ugly. Then Elaine is thrilled to be described as “breathtaking” by the doctor until he uses the same adjective to describe the ugly baby.
This reminds me of DIY logos. When ordinary people do the job of a professional things can turnout ugly. I would never try to fix my own car or furnace, it’s dangerous. I’d call a professional. Just like it’s dangerous for a business owner to leave the identity of their business (“their baby”) in the hands of a non-designer.
Don’t let your friends walk around flaunting ugly logos, listen for “I’m teaching myself design”, look for hard to read, messy, or mix matched fonts. Send them my way so I can help them create a truly “breathtaking” brand.
